What can and cannot be protected as an industrial design or model

WHAT CAN BE PROTECTED AS AN INDUSTRIAL DESIGN OR MODEL  

According to the UAE Federal Law No. 17 of 2002 an industrial design or model has to be new or innovative and which can be used as an industrial or crafty product.
 
It shall be granted the protection document for the industrial design or model by a decree from the minister and it shall be published in the bulletin upon payment of the requisite fees. Any interested party can oppose this decision within 60 days of the publication; otherwise the registration certificate shall be handed over to its owner, confirming the registration.
 
The law protects the industrial design or model and prevents the third parties from the utilization of the registered industrial design or model in manufacturing any product, furthermore also prevent from the importation of any product related to the industrial design or model, or from the possession for the purpose of using, exhibiting for sale or selling it. 
 
WHAT CANNOT BE PROTECTED AS AN INDUSTRIAL DESIGN OR MODEL
 
Any industrial design or model, which is in violation of the public order, ethical code or morale of the state, cannot be registered in the UAE.
 
The industrial drawing or model may not contain words, letters or figures unless they constitute substantial elements of such industrial drawing or model.
